The Refugee Protection Division (RPD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is responsible for making decisions on refugee protection claims. The RPD is the first step in the refugee determination process in Canada. It is the only body in Canada that can grant refugee protection to people who are in need of protection.
The RPD is responsible for making decisions on refugee protection claims based on the criteria set out in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). The RPD considers the facts of each case and makes a decision based on the evidence presented. The RPD also considers the best interests of the child, if applicable.
The RPD is composed of members who are appointed by the Governor in Council. The members are independent and impartial decision-makers who are responsible for making decisions on refugee protection claims. The members are trained in refugee law and procedure and are supported by a team of legal and administrative staff.
The RPD is responsible for making decisions on refugee protection claims in a fair and timely manner. The RPD also provides information and assistance to claimants and their representatives throughout the refugee determination process.
The RPD is committed to providing a fair and efficient process for refugee protection claims. The RPD strives to ensure that all claimants are treated with respect and dignity and that their claims are decided in a fair and timely manner.
